Their album Sainthood saw their first actual collaboration (that made it to an album) with Paperback Head. Their albums have this dichotomy of styles almost, but they're able to coexist and just.work. But we also see how they help and inspire each other.įor the most part, there are Tegan songs and Sara songs. (Meaning if it was a song Tegan wrote, then Tegan herself would sing the backup vocals.) In this film + The Con making videos, we see a bit how they work(ed?) in the studio with each other, and we see how they can get on each other's nerves sometimes. In their short documentary film It's Not Fun Don't Do It, they revealed that up until then, they usually sang backup to their own tracks. They write basically all of their own songs.
Soon enough, they became known for bantering with each other and the audience during their live shows. If you've seen The Lego Movie, you probably heard their song with The Lonely Island, Everything is AWESOME!!! (Yes, that's the title.)Įarly in their career, they would have to fill time slots they didn't have enough music for, so they would banter on stage to fill the time.
From very early on, they were out and proud as lesbian women. (All of this is told better in their book, High School.) Since then, they began a steady upward progression in their career. While still in high school, they entered a battle of the bands competition and won. When they were about in high school, they formed a band called Plunk. Tegan and Sara are identical twins who were born in 1980 in Canada.
